Pale eyes flicked rapidly around the contours of the box so quickly, it would seem as if he'd never stopped looking at Alexei. But Danny laughed when he found the deal to be solid. It was always good to see some honor amongst theives.
"Yeah, we'll get it packed in no time; we've got it down to an art form, y'know." He said, giving the signal for everyone to start loading as he strode next to Alexei. "Everything's been going according to plan, which is a rare thing for the 'trade' now-a-days. I haven't been shot at for at least a month now."

Alexei chuckled and shook his head.
"What I'd give to be shot at again. Seems like psycho after psycho is chasing me down with swords and knives, and barely ever for drug shit anymore. What happened to the good old days where I just got shot at by narcotics investigators?"

"Well, if experience has taught me anything through the years then its that when you don't get shot at for a long time, it means either that everything is fine or everything is about to go to the dogs." Danny shrugged. "But, for what its worth, I prefer the knife-wielding pyschos; its not hard to run away from someone with a knife, I always say. In fact," He chuckled as he continued. "I'm pretty sure running was invented because someone was after you with a knife."
It felt good to be listening to someone again. Alone, he had nothing but memories and endless expanses of time ahead of him. The natural wonders of the world were empty to him except in the limited capacities of sight and sound. Because of the curse, he could no longer hear the world breathing or feel its heart beating. He felt most vulnerable to the curse's calls when he was by himself. It felt extraordinary to be in good company and Danny practically shone with good vibrations.

Alexei shrugged.
"Except shooting them hasn't worked well either. This psychotic creditor attacked and slaughtered an entire checkpoint! I was the only one who made it out of there, and not exactly uninjured. Then there is some freak in a gas mask who nearly sliced my to ribbons on more then one occasion chasing this blonde called Tuesday."

A low whistle snaked through Danny's teeth at mention of insane Creditors. As if the regular kind weren't trouble enough, now even the machines were going crazy. Manalism had certainly turned the world on its head.
"I'm very glad to see that you made it away, though. Creditors are some real tough customers and a heywire one would put my feet to the pavement; you've got some stones to be on the same continent as that thing, buddy." He sounded a bit worried as he went on but it was for more than just Alexei's safety. "This girl the crazy was chasing, Tuesday - she was a journalist, yeah?"

Alexei raises a brow and nods.
"You know her." he says slowly, looking thoughtful. "That's a nearly suspicious coincidence two drug smugglers are associated with the same woman. Think she's with the commission?"

"I know her." Danny confirmed in a hallow voice, watching the product being loaded, losing himself in thought for a moment.
It was almost beyond belief that the woman he'd met could be a Manalist. He had nothing more to go on than a few blasphemies and a gut feeling. Maybe it was the pretty face that was giving him difficulties, he didn't know, it was just hard to swallow.
"Gosh, I sure hope she isn't one of them because that would make seeing her again a definate no-no, wouldn't it?" He frowned. "She didn't tell you what kind of journalism she did, did she? Show you any atricles or something?"

"Supposedly she worked for a rebel newspaper. That's why the nut in the gas mask was after her. She...enlisted me into helping her."
Alexei thought how odd that must sound, him helping someone for no apparent reason. It seemed rather uncharacteristic for him.
"It would be a good cover, though, wouldn't it? A rebel journalist who doesn't believe in manala. I thought I managed to keep my occupation somewhat vague, but if she was dispatched specifcally to spy on us..."
He shrugged.
"If I find she's with them, she'll be dead before she finishes her next report."
Alexei was surprised when he realized he found that scenario somewhat distasteful. He really had grown somewhat fond of Tuesday.

Yes, the Russian were definately a ruthless lot. He had been like that once - ready to kill on a whim - so he couldn't much blame Alexei for being himself.
"Come to think it, there was another girl I met. One Ms. Bambi Engel, a banker. And before I met them, they were talking about something they didn't want me to hear about." He arched an eyebrow Alexei's way. "Things sure are looking on the suspicious side, aren't they? I think I'd prefer being shot at; at least then there's not all this bother about ending up with a knife in your back." Danny thought more on this new element to Tuesday's and Bambi's (who could tell, after all) characters and cursed himself for falling for a pair of pretty faces.
His people were almost finished loading the product now.

Alexei sighed and folded his hands behind his head.
"Maybe I'll find her and see what she has to say for herself." he says absently.
"We could go along with it, and pretend we don't suspect a thing, then if she shows her true colors, we'll definitely be ready. Unless you have an idea?"

His frowned deepened.
"I refuse to act without hard evidence." He looked over at Alexei. "You've got a solid idea, Alexei: ask her about it all. And if she is on their side . . . " Danny seemed to give deep consideration to his next words. "Then we'll give her a traitor's death, yeah?"
A traitor's death was slow and painful, everyone in their line knew that. Traitors were rats and they died worse than rats died. The whole thing made Danny angry at himself and grateful for Alexei's perspective on the matter. It was good that he had someone there to offer up a cautious voice because it helped Danny center himself and think clearly for a moment. It was an important trait in their business and Danny was glad that Alexei wore his suspicions on his sleeve.

Alexei shrugged as the last of the opium was loaded onto the plane.
"Probably best. No since murdering unless absolutely necessary." He checked a watch at his wrist then looked back to Danny.
"Want to ride back to Moscow with me? We can get a drink, and then you can always take a booth back. We can hit a few clubs, pick up some ladies with loose, and negotiable morality. What do you say?"
He grinned and winked.

Danny nodded. "Why throw away something fine while its fresh, right?"
Danny had a short coversation in the language as he handed over the suitcase with the money to his fellow workers and confirmed the deal was done. He asked them all to let Leilah know where he'd be and then turned back to Alexei.
He smiled at Alexei's offer. "A drink and some good conversation are exactly what I need right now."

Alexei chuckled and strolled onto the plane as it made ready to take off.
"We'll start off with some shots and see where we go from there, eh?"

Duddy gave Li a nod, he was trying not to stare at her, but yet again he imagined what it would be like to make love to her. "Well Li, here is my phone number, its a cloned phone and should be safe to call if you need me," John said as he handed her the piece of paper. Li gave a smile and walked away, this gave Duddy the chance to continue his mission.
