Here is a list of questions that you could ask, with information that maybe ...you should know.
1. Is this before or after Red Infinity/Years of Anguish?
This takes place in its own world, so it is an alternate universe from Red Infinity or Years of Anguish. That is why some of the same characters can exist here with different story lines. This rpg is related to the two in that many of the characters are the same and some of the plot ideas are similar, but, it doesn't have any connection to the other two rpgs.
However, IF it did relate to the two, it would take place before Red Infinity and after Years of Anguish. Since politically speaking that would make the most sense.
Who is Father Manala?
Keitoleinen is Father Manala, but this a secret from most everyone. He became Father Manala by killing all of the other gods. That is why he is the only god left in the world. The person who kills him would become the next Father Manala.
Keitoleinen keeps it a secret from almost everyone in the world that he is Father Manala.
Are all the of gods really dead?
Yes, unless they have been reincarnated or are in hiding. But to Keitoleinen's knowledge, every other god is dead.
Where did all of the elves, vampires, demons, etc come from?
The actual origin of these other races is mostly unknown. Dragons were created by Louhi. Some of the other races were also created by other gods long ago. They mostly lived in seclusion or in small populations until the battle between the Gods and Keitoleinen, in which some of them fought on behalf of their own gods.
Where did the Gods come from?
This is also unknown. No one really questions the origin of the Gods because they are all dead, with the exception of Father Manala. The Gods were created by human scientists, who may also have been behind the creation of elves, demons, and other fantasy races. But these origins are nebulous and won't be revealed in the rpg...or at least not for some time. The only thing that matters is that fantasy creatures exist in a modern world and have for some time. They have created their own origin myths and none seem to know the truth or question their origin.
What year is it in the rpg?
It is an unlisted year in the somewhat near future. After the Manalists wiped out other religions, they wiped out the calendars based off of those religions. That is why there is ambiguity over the year. The Manalists have their own calendar which begins with the establishment of the High Temple in Rome. That was over 50 years ago. The year might be described as 55 M, but it is not an essential fact for the rpg.
How did the world get this way?
I leave some things very vague, because the people of the world are supposed to be ignorant to history. They don't know much about what the world was like before the Manalists. Books and other resources were destroyed and schooling is reserved for the elite. Even those involved with the Manalists have little awareness of what life was like before them. However, since there are some people over 55 years old, there are some people alive who do remember the past. Due to a decline in health care, people are not living as long and some of those older people were purposefully destroyed. Before the Manalists there was a Great Global Depression and various wars throughout the world. There was an oil crisis as well as social unrest. The Manalists came to bring order to the world, which was welcome in that turmoltuous time. They stabilized capitalism and did away with individual countries.
Why is the United States a wasteland?
Because my rpgs tend to be Euro Centric and because it makes things more interesting.
The actual cause of the destruction of the United States is never really mentioned in the rpg. All that is known is that it is a radioactive wasteland and that rebels and outlaws live there in freedom from the Manalists. ..at a cost to their health. It is also known that Mexico and Canada are partially radioactive.
I think I will leave it a mystery as to what really happened in the United States. I am open to suggestions though.
What is going on in the Third World?
Most of the rpg takes place in Europe, Japan, and China. Little is mentioned of South America, Africa, or other developing areas of the world. Most of these places are owned by larger companies which use the land or resources. For instance, Crest Mining owns a large portion of South America. Businesses, usually owned by Europeans, own and control what was the third world. Those living in those areas of the world remain poor and exploited.
What is the meaning of all of the poppies?
The main character in the comic I created, Hilja, is actually a plant person who is a poppy. As for the poppies themselves, it relates to religion as being a drug of the people. The Marxist quote was meant to say though that religion causes conflict between people, since in his time, the Opium wars were going on. So, the poppies are a reference to religion as something drug like and conflict causing. I also like red and poppies, so it is for that reason as well. The poppies go along with the theme of religion, drugs, flowers, death and dreams.
What is the dream theme?
The Manalists control a powerful machine that causes people to dream up reality. It is a mind altering machine that can be used to shape how people perceive reality. However, the machine has not been mentioned yet in the rpg and probably won't be for a long time.
Why is the currency in the world called Rand?
South African money is called Rand, and also in reference to Ayn Rand.
I just thought it was a good name for a currency.
