Weapon
A lighter, a knife, cyanide capsules
Appearance: At first glance, Alter appears to be harmless. She’s a petite woman, just barely past five feet tall, and thin. However, she is surprisingly strong, despite her size. Her eyes are brown, and her hair is brown and curly. She wears it in a bob and prefers more feminine clothing, like flowery blouses. She likes skirts, but rarely wears them because they are difficult to work in. Alter is usually knitting. She finds it relaxing.
Personality: Alter does her job. She buried her emotions when Israel collapsed, and rarely reacts strongly to anything. Mostly, she is bitter. When she gets angry, however, she gets angry. Failure tends to make her fly off the handle. Oddly enough, she is more emotionally stable than most of her coworkers. This has helped her to get promoted.
Story:
Yedida Grossman was born in Haifa. Her mother was a graphic designer and her father was an engineering professor at Technion University. Her parents died in a bus bombing when she was eight, so she went to live with her grandmother in Ramat HaSharon, a suburb of Tel Aviv. Her Grandmother was superstitious, she had Yedida renamed Alter, the Yiddish word for “old man,” in order to trick the Angel of Death. Alter's grandmother was also deaf, so she had to learn ASL in order to communicate. Despite these oddities, Alter loved her grandmother.
Alter did well in school and was eventually accepted to Hebrew University in Jerusalem to study biology. First, however, she had to complete her army service. She discovered that she was very good at that too. Instead of going to university after the army, she joined the Mossad. As a front, Alter opened up a knitting supplies store. Her grandmother was a little disappointed that Alter wasn’t going to be a doctor, but eventually warmed up to the idea when the “knitting store” was successful. She never knew that Alter was actually a Mossad operative.
Unfortunately, Alter chose this career path after the Manalists had already begun their rise to power. The state began to dissolve. Alter’s grandmother died of natural causes. Then, the future moderator killed his entire family. Violence against Jews and Muslims broke out. The old lines dissolved. In the chaos, the Mossad decided it would be prudent to destroy all of its files. Alter saw her future collapse. She decided that she had to kill Ariel Tal Shachar; She blamed him for the collapse of the Jewish state. Unfortunately, his file was incinerated before she could find out his secret.
Alter decided to join the Invisible Hand as a way to get close enough to Ariel Tal Shachar to kill him. She defected from the Mossad. Because of her experience and competence, Alter became a senior operative. She doesn’t have qualms about doing most of her Invisible Hand work because she sees it as a means to her ultimate goal. Alter isn’t high ranking enough to meet the Moderator in person yet, but she will be. At this point, Alter isn’t even sure of her ideology, she just wants him to die. But she is willing to wait as long as it takes, and appear the loyal soldier.
