There are severe food shortages and the Manalists have actually set up a charity to distribute some staple foods to avoid starvation. This is against their policy of charity, but, it is such a problem, that there would be no workers if they didn't do this. The largest source of food is Genetech. Most food is genetically engineered. Genetech has replaced meat with Smeet, which is sheets of meat that was grown in labs. Smeet is cheaper than meat but tastes like sheets of hot dog or bologne.
Meat is only available to the very rich, since animals and farms are scarce. Pig products are sacred to the Manalists and one of the most expensive meats.
Allmart stores do carry a variety of food products, most of which were created by Genetech.
Most food is heavily processed and generally unhealthy. Fresh fruit or food is rare and expensive.
