Rose is the daughter of a plant woman who happened to be a Rose. Her father is Dr. Hoito from Genetech. She has never really met her father, who was never a part of her life. Her mother raised her, but her mother suffers from some mental health issues. Eventually her mother was taken away from Rose by Dr. Lonrott. After that, Rose had to raise herself.

Rose did alright though. She stayed with friends or other relatives, but dropped out of high school when she couldn't afford it. Eventually she got her schooling certificate and even tried to go to college. Rose couldn't focus well so eventually she dropped out of that as well. Despite her difficulties staying in school, she is a genius. She loves science and excels at it. She could easily be a scientist at Genetech if she applied herself and made it through school.
Right now though, her focus is just surviving in this dark world.

Rose does not know she is part plant. She does know that her mother called herself a plant and that is why she was taken away. She also knows that she was born on the island of Skye. Rose does not know who her father is or that he is the famous scientist at Genetech.

Attis is chaotic, crafty, and hard to trust. He is arrogant and vain, but disguises it with an act of spiritual enlightenment. He acts peaceful and wise, but is really chaotic and messed up in his head. He leaves suddenly and without reason. He can never be counted upon. He is secretive and comes across as apathetic at his best and sadistic at his worst. He easily manipulates people, and preys especially upon women. He is a womanizer and alcoholic.

story:

Attis is the son of a forest demon and a human woman. His father the forest demon would sometimes torment women, and his mother was just one of his human victims, who he seduced and left. Attis therefore never had a relationship with his father. He was instead raised by his mother, a pleasant woman with a farm in the former Czech republic. Growing up he hated the simple farming life and longed for adventure and freedom.

Later in life, he was captured while he was in his fox form (he can turn into a fox) and sent to a fox farm. Lucia Mellona, a friend of Hilja's, family owned the farm. Hilja and Lucia freed the foxes and Attis later thanked them. He befriended the two girls and eventually some time later Hilja and Attis were involved with each other. Attis was Hilja's first love, but eventually he left her, moved away and involved himself with other people. Never the less, he left a significant impression on her.

Attis eventually moved to the U.S. where he wandered around for a while, seeking freedom there. But..America is a waste and full of insane and criminal people. Eventually he became bored of America and moved back to Europe

While in Europe, his drug use got him into trouble with the Manalists. He was arrested and sent to fight in China while they were having their revolution. He fought for the Manalists and helped overthrow the government that had placed Li Violette under house arrest.

He grew bored of his time in China and deserted. Thus, he is wanted by the Anti Drug Commission.

Right now, he mostly wanders around. He is secretly a key figure in the Enlightened Brotherhood, although he will not admit this to anyone.

Attis would like to see everything destroyed so that humanity can return to a simpler time without technology or government or oppression. He would like to see humans return to nature and a primitive state. So..he supports the end of civilization. He is disgusted by technology and feels happiest when he is alone in nature.

Since most of nature is privately owned, he hates the Manalists and the system as it is. However, he is hesitant to do much about it.

Instead he would rather just distract himself with drugs and wandering.

Beneon is serious and hollow. He can't sleep at night and finds little to enjoy in life. The only thing that really motivates him is serving Genetech and feelings of Irish nationalism, even though Ireland is now owned by Genetech. He rarely laughs or smiles. He has little hunger or desire for anything. Sometimes he can't control thoughts about his past. He over works himself so he doesn't have to think much. He is pessimistic but capable. He feels empty, but expresses none of these concerns.

Beneon was created by Genetech to be a fighter, so he is a slightly enhanced human. He is stronger than most ordinary humans and has powers related spiders. People call him Ban for short, and that is what he prefers.

For a while, he was allowed to leave Ireland and study in Helsinki. During these years of freedom he studied mechanics at Helsinki University and dabbled with anarchist politics. He became an atheist and anarchist and for a while, he wanted nothing to do with Genetech. It was during this time that he met Rose Hoito. The two dated for a few years and were engaged until he was told he had to return to Genetech and fight in Afghanistan against the forces of Kailah the Red Dragon. He fought in the Opium War there, which was lost.
During that time, Rose broke off their engagement.

When he returned, he went back to work for Genetech, gave up any thoughts of anarchy or rebellion and lived a quiet life of service to Genetech. He says he has no regrets in life and is doing what should be done. He has a sense of duty and even says he no longer cares for Rose or any of the things which transpired in his past.

He has trouble with authority figures, which he always secretly resents. He is somewhat of a perfectionist. He is paranoid about the intentions and thoughts of others. He doesn't trust people easily and breaks bonds with people easily.

Charon is an old elf scholar who lives in Helsinki and teaches Theology at Helsinki University. He teaches about other religions of the past as well as everything about the Manalists. He loves to learn and teach, but he is controlled by the school over what he can teach. He can only give lectures which support the Manalists. But, since he needs a job, he does as he is told.

Earlier in his life, he was a Manalist and a friend of Master Scrag's before Scrag became the Master. Scrag and him both tried to become the Master, which meant they both traveled to the Gray Zone to test who was stronger. Charon backed out as he approached the dark void, figuring it was not worth it to continue. Scrag on the other hand entered the void and because he survived, he was named the Master of the Manalists.

After that incident, Charon left the Manalist temple and traveled. During his travels he met various women and had a few children. He tried drugs and even tried out a few different religions. Eventually he gave up drugs and religion, and settled into a solitary life. He eventually moved to France until it was taken over by Vivien LaFramboise. After that, he moved to Helsinki where he now lives.

He lives in Helsinki and works as a professor of Theology at Helsinki University. He keeps a low profile and spends his free time watching his garden at home.

He is not hunted by the Manalists, since at one time he was Scrag's friend. So long as he gives pro Manalist lectures, they leave him alone.

So, he does that, living a slow and solitary life with his small fairy companion Asphodel. Asphodel is a small pink fairy who assists him.

In the comic, he eventually becomes infatuated with Hilja, who comes to work for him.

Lonnrot is protective of his sister. He enjoys psychology and feels he is helping people. He is intelligent, rational, emotionally controlled with the exception of angry out bursts. He enjoys reading, psychology, his cat and his fiancé. He is proud of himself and sometimes comes off as arrogant and opportunistic. He believes himself to be a genius.




story:


Lonnrot is the brother of Hilja Kukkanen. He was born and raised in Helsinki and went to school there for psychology. The Manalists saw his talent and agreed to pay for his education and research. Due to their help, he became one of the Blessed and the top psychologist in the world. He is proud of his accomplishment and hopes to use his power to help people. In the past, he has worked with Tristan and Beineon. He helped Beineon overcome some issues when he returned from the Opium War. Lonnrot was also the psychologist who has been studying Rose’s mother for several years. He is dedicated to his work and enjoys it above all other things.


Lonnrot is engaged to Tulpanni, his secretary. They live together in Helsinki and have a cat.
Lonnrot at one point in time erased Hilja and Lucia’s memories of Attis. He dislikes Attis because he thinks that the fox demon is a scoundrel and abhors the fact that his sister is so fond of him. Lonnrot also dislikes Tristan, who he also thinks is a terrible person and someone whom his sister should have nothing to do with. He means well and only wishes to protect his sister from harm.

Lonnrot is the brother of Hilja Kukkanen. He was born and raised in Helsinki and went to school there for psychology. The Manalists saw his talent and agreed to pay for his education and research. Due to their help, he became one of the Blessed and the top psychologist in the world. He is proud of his accomplishment and hopes to use his power to help people.  In the past, he has worked with Tristan and Beineon. He helped Beineon overcome some issues when he returned from the Opium War.  Lonnrot was also the psychologist who has been studying Rose’s mother for several years. He is dedicated to his work and enjoys it above all other things.


Lonnrot is engaged to Tulpanni, his secretary. They live together in Helsinki and have a cat.
Lonnrot at one point in time erased Hilja and Lucia’s memories of Attis. He dislikes Attis because he thinks that the fox demon is a scoundrel and abhors the fact that his sister is so fond of him. Lonnrot also dislikes Tristan, who he also thinks is a terrible person and someone whom his sister should have nothing to do with. He means well and only wishes to protect his sister from harm.

Tristan was an iris in Serbia who decided to become a human. Not much is known about his early life, but, he was a musician in Belgrade when he was captured by the Manalists. He was given the choice of working for them or being killed. He chose to work for them.

While working for the Manalists, he met his future wife, Succinite, an aspiring young priestess. He helped her become a priestess, they had a son together, and they married. Succinite eventually became a high priestess and one of the Blessed. This made things between them increasingly distant and tense seeing as Tristan had little interest in working for the Manalists. The Manalists use Tristan’s son to coax him into doing their bidding. Because of this he feels trapped and unhappy in his life. Tristan’s marriage is in crisis and will eventually end.

In the comic Tristan capturs Hilja and is her tormentor. Hilja is fond of Tristan to say the least, but he is a bit too caught up in his problems to become too involved with her.

She did well in school and attended college for Theoology in Helsinki. One of her professors was actually Charon Desjardins. While in college, she met a religious soldier named Tristan Tuzanic. They fell in love and had a child together. Because of her traditional values, she wanted them to get married, which they did. They lived happily for a while, but Succinite was under a lot of stress. She was being trained to use Manala energy and it was hard work for her. She became tired and moody. She gave up her interest in music and became a workaholic. All of this divided her from her husband. Tristan cared little about being a good Manalist. By the time Succinite became a High Priestess, they were having serious marrital problems.

Annette was born in Germany to a middle class family. Her father worked at a bank and her mother worked in the home. As a child, Annette would go to the bank to visit her father. It was at this young age that she fell in love with money and banking. She admired the men in their suits and the order to the banking. She started saving with a piggy bank at the age of 4 and when she was old enough, she started her own account at the bank.
In school, she would lend lunch money to the other children and charge them interest. She was a very intelligent child, but never enjoyed playing or imagination games. She loved math and numbers in general.
After school, she went on to college for Finance. While in college, she paid for her schooling by modeling, since she was a tall and attractive woman back then. She also played in an orchestra, since she was an accomplished Bassoonish. She was known for her intelligence, ambition, beauty, and talent. After college she took on many jobs until finally she landed her dream job at the World Bank. She worked for the World Bank long ago when the world was different. It was during those years that she moved to Switzerland. When the world transitioned into Manalism, she became the head of the Global Bank and director of the Creditors. What he says and how he acts seems to have an uncanny impact on the economy. Because of this, he is feared and respected. Ariel was born female in Tel Aviv Israel to an upper middle class family. Both of his parents were professors. He had a younger sister as well, but he rarely played with her. At a young age, Ariel demonstrated a desire to be male. His parents allowed him to live life as a male from age 6, even though he was biolgically female. Ariel was a serious and sad child who said little in school. He did not fit in with his peers since he was far smarter than them. He spent time alone and couldn't make friends. His only friends were always adults, who really weren't friends at all. Other children were jealous of him since he was the smartest in the class and would do well without trying. It made him sad that he was disliked because of his abilities.
He was also picked on because of his blind eye. This meant he was not as good at sports and some other activities. Books were his best refuge from his cruel peers.

Eventually Ariel went to college where he at first tried to live as a woman and even try dating men as he went through a sort of identity crisis. He went for school for economics and did very well. He even met a man who he was in a relationship with as a woman. The two were close and he thought perhaps they could have a life together. They were engaged for several months before Ariel decided that this little experiment wasn't really true to himself and was an embarassing mistake.
He/She cut off all contact with the person and once again reinvented herself as a male.

Around this time, the Manalists came to power. Ariel knew he was a talented economists, so he applied for a position with the World Economic Council. He did so well at the job he was promoted, eventually becoming the Moderator. However, to become the Moderator he had to prove that he had no religious ties. To do this, he had to have his family killed. He approved orders to have his Jewish family killed by the Invisible Hand. Pleased that he was indeed free of any religious attachments, he was granted the position of Moderator.

Since then he has lived as a man. No one knows his secret, with the exception of Annette Rosenthal. He is still biologically female and not sure if or when he will have a sex change. Now that he is well known, it would be nearly impossible to have this done under the radar of the Manalists who are against trans or homosexual individuals. He is attracted to women, but because of his secret, he can not become involved with women. He is attracted to Li Violette, but Li does not know that he is a she. Li often indicates that she is attracted to him as well, which is painful for him, since he doesn't trust her and because he knows that if she knew he was a woman, she would not be attracted to him. Thus, he is very distant with her. He is also aware that she might try to use him to gain more power.

Personal things aside, The Moderator is highly respected. He advises everyone on economic policies and business practices. Normally his advice is taken. He also moderates the various powers within the world. When companies have disputes, he tries to settle them in a way which benefits both parties. He also tries to moderate disputes between businesses and the Manalists. Because of his talent for economics and understanding people, he is the most powerful and respected person in the world.

He believes in Machiavellian capitalism. He doesn't attach himself to one idea or one theory on how the economy should be run. He believes in flexibility, expermentation, and doing whatever works for specific situations. He believes that individuals should be cunning, ambitious, flexible, and independent. He supports the Manalists because they play a useful role in the world. He will support anything if he feels it is more beneficial to support it than not to. His only friends were always adults, who really weren't friends at all. Other children were jealous of him since he was the smartest in the class and would do well without trying. It made him sad that he was disliked because of his abilities.
He was also picked on because of his blind eye. This meant he was not as good at sports and some other activities. Books were his best refuge from his cruel peers.

Eventually Ariel went to college where he at first tried to live as a woman and even try dating men as he went through a sort of identity crisis. He went for school for economics and did very well. He even met a man who he was in a relationship with as a woman. The two were close and he thought perhaps they could have a life together. They were engaged for several months before Ariel decided that this little experiment wasn't really true to himself and was an embarassing mistake.  
He/She cut off all contact with the person and once again reinvented herself as a male.

Around this time, the Manalists came to power. Ariel knew he was a talented economists, so he applied for a position with the World Economic Council. He did so well at the job he was promoted, eventually becoming the Moderator. However, to become the Moderator he had to prove that he had no religious ties. To do this, he had to have his family killed. He approved orders to have his Jewish family killed by the Invisible Hand. Pleased that he was indeed free of any religious attachments, he was granted the position of Moderator.

Since then he has lived as a man. No one knows his secret, with the exception of Annette Rosenthal. He is still biologically female and not sure if or when he will have a sex change. Now that he is well known, it would be nearly impossible to have this done under the radar of the Manalists who are against trans or homosexual individuals. He is attracted to women, but because of his secret, he can not become involved with women. He is attracted to Li Violette, but Li does not know that he is a she. Li often indicates that she is attracted to him as well, which is painful for him, since he doesn't trust her and because he knows that if she knew he was a woman, she would not be attracted to him. Thus, he is very distant with her. He is also aware that she might try to use him to gain more power.

Personal things aside, The Moderator is highly respected. He advises everyone on economic policies and business practices. Normally his advice is taken. He also moderates the various powers within the world. When companies have disputes, he tries to settle them in a way which benefits both parties. He also tries to moderate disputes between businesses and the Manalists. Because of his talent for economics and understanding people, he is the most powerful and respected person in the world.

He believes in Machiavellian capitalism. He doesn't attach himself to one idea or one theory on how the economy should be run. He believes in flexibility, expermentation, and doing whatever works for specific situations. He believes that individuals should be cunning, ambitious, flexible, and independent. He supports the Manalists because they play a useful role in the world. He will support anything if he feels it is more beneficial to support it than not to.  So although he is an atheist, he supports religion because it has a useful role in ordering society.
