Well, our General board is definitely very droll, therefore...
What kind of music does everyone like? What artists? Favorites/least favorites?
I'd also really like it if people would post here what they're listening to as they're posting in other areas of the board (like the main story), because I'm almost always listening to some song when I write and I'd like to know what everyone else is tuning.
So...
My top five favorite artists:
1. Maroon 5 2. Jack's Mannequin 3. Cobra Starship 4. Louis XIV 5. The Academy Is...
(I don't expect anyone to know the last 4, I listen to alot of alternative/indie stuff)
My top 10 favorite songs:
1. Sunday Morning By: Maroon 5 2. Through With You By: Maroon 5 3. Love I Don't Have To Love By: Bright Eyes 4. Don't Let Me Down By: The Beatles 5. This Love By: Maroon 5 6. Two Princes By: The Spin Doctors 7. Guilty Pleasure By: Cobra Starship 8. I'm Ready By: Jack's Mannequin 9. Semi-Charmed Kind Of Life By: Third Eye Blind 10. Absolutely By: Nine Days
Current artists that irk me:
1. Daughtry 2. Collbie Collat (or however you spell her awkward name, who names their daughter Colbie? crazy people. that's who.) 3. Fergie
On your marks.......... Get set..... Go!

My top 10 favorite songs:
1. Puscifer - Trekka 2. Rent - La Vie Boheme 3. Heather Dale - Mordred's Lullaby 4. Maximum the Hormone - Chu Chu Lovely Muni Muni Mura Mura Purin Purin Boron Nurururerorero 5. AFI - The Leaving Song Pt. 2 6. Kill Hannah - The Songs That Saved My Life 7. Rammstien - Engel (Ahahaha. No seriously that isn't where I got her last name from. Okay maybe partly.) 8. Nightwish - Dead Boy's Poem 9. The Black Mages - The Skies Above 10. ELO - Twilight
I'm not one to bother paying attention to artists I don't like the songs of, so I don't really know the name of any that irk me. I love a lot of artists and songs, so picking just five and ten was a bit of a challenge.

Currently listening to- "Oxford Comma" By: Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend- Who I use to think was a bad band with a great name, but I genuinely like that particular song alot... Because it makes no sense.
A few lyrics: 'Why would you lie 'bout how much coal you have? Why would you like 'bout something dumb like that? First the window, then it's to the wall. Little John... He always tells the truth.'
FANTASTIC.
Also... I've heard of a few of those bands and they're okay. Puscifer is great. And that song by AFI is okay. Have you heard their cover of "Jack The Ripper" originally by Morissey? It's the best one I've ever heard. Yep.

I have not, but I shall go try to find it. I often go hunt down songs once I hear of them from other people. Songs that make absolutely no sense I often find amusing.

Do it. It's good.
And nonsensical songs are great... "Cheap and Cheerful" By: The Kills is another one like that.
A few lyrics: 'Cuz love is just a dialogue. You can't survive on icecream. You've got me seeing Santa Clause. It's alright... To be mean. It's alright... To be mean. I want you to be crazy...'
I love it.
Currently listening- Ocean Avenue By: Yellowcard
I haven't listened to this in eternity.

Whoa! This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb! Punk-folk! Nice! I am okay with the unheavy punk based genres, punk, electro-punk, pop-punk, progressive punk (if you start getting into Crust Punk, ect. I'm out) and absolutely obsessed with Ska (punk). If I were a genre of music; I would be Ska.
Streetlight Manifesto, Suburban Legends, Less Than Jake, Hepcat, The Toasters (who I recently saw live: AMAZING).
I am very into it.

I've heard of Choking Victim... Some of their songs are ska-esque. I agree.
I hate when people call, like, No Doubt ska. I want to shoot myself in the face. I'm like: 1. No. 2. What? 3. No.
All the popular "ska" bands bother me or just are mislabeled... Like Sublime, for example. Not really ska AT ALL.
I don't mind Less Than Jake though, but mostly because they started 'Fueled By Ramen' records (more than for the music)... Which is amazing and has SO MANY of my favorite bands it's almost ridiculous to mention.
I.E. Cobra Starship & The Academy Is...

I dunno, I used to be really into more pop-esque bands (Fall out Boy, Cute Is What We Aim For, Forever The Sickest Kids) then I moved and I got more into punk/crust stuff. Sublime isn't ska I want to cry when I hear that

I love both Cute Is What We Aim For and Forever The Sickest Kids. I've seen Cute... live and got to meet Shaant (the lead singer) and he was pretty cool. I would consider them, along with Fall Out Boy, to be pop-punk I guess.
Actually, it bothers me to mention it, but I have a ridiculous about of FOB on my ipod (15 songs-- which to me feels ridiculous), and that is due to the fact that Pete Wentz (although the biggest self-righteous, self-important, terrible bass playing, annoying prick maybe ever) is probably one of the best lyricists out there... And I SO hate to admit it but I could give literally a books worth of examples of just fantastic lyrics he's written. Not really meaningful... But SO witty.
And I just can't get into heavier stuff in any genre. I REALLY hate screaming.

I listen to a LOT of different genres, but the genre I listen to the most are rock types.
I guess I've always just liked rock the best. The only genre I really don't like is the rap genre, though some songs are all right.
It's just the songs that repeat the same line for two minutes+ that make me twitch. I like to think I know how to enjoy a good beat, though.
I listen to a lot of songs too that I don't really like the sound of, but I like the lyrics.
Current Song: The Dresden Dolls - Glass Slipper

I like some rap (particularly older rap and artistic, intense new stuff like Matisyahu [sp?]), but agree that songs like "Party Like a Rock Star" are ridiculously annoying.
Some rap lyrics are fantasticly witty though...
Examples:
"My anatomy is bird like. Yes, you heard right. I'm the king so that means I'm FLY."
"They call me candle guy. Why? Simply cuz I am on fire."
"If hip-hop is dead then I'm embalming fluid."
And there are others but those come to mind...

I like mostly old rap also. I agree that there are some pretty witty lyrics, though I can't really think of any right now. I doubt I could even if it wasn't late unless I looked through my songs.
Current Song: Rage Against the Machine - Guerrilla Radio

Ah! Rage! Any Rage fan is a friend of mine! I think they're a little over rated... But they still do good music. Kind of like Nirvana: over rated, but the music IS good. "Lithium" is my favorite Nirvana song. The lyrics in the bridge are fantastic.
The wittiest lyrics I've ever heard are probably Hellogoodbye's "Homewrecker" lyrics in the second verse:
I will dig a hole and label it 'love' And trick her to fall in from above
It's just ridiculous that someone came up with that.
Currently listening- The Way We Talk By: The Maine
They have some witty lyrics as well.
